I have really enjoyed taking COM 210 and creating this blog. My favorite project during the semester was the final video project because I’ve always wanted to learn how to create videos in a professional program like Adobe Premiere and be able to do special effects and transitions like we were taught to do. Also, this was my favorite because I had a lot of fun filming the videos at one of my favorite events that my sorority puts on. I was proud that I could capture and share with others about this event that is so fun and means a lot to me and others. I learned how to work with Premiere in the tutorials and discovered tools and gained skills in Premiere. I also had a lot of fun making the tutorials. I also enjoyed using those tools in my final video project on my own. I enjoyed all the programs we worked with, but Adobe Premiere was my favorite because there was so much to do with the program to make my project creative and interesting. The skills I learned in this course are how to manage my time well, organize my materials on a computer well, and how to use and create projects with Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, Audition, and Premiere. I feel as if I can use all these skills and programs in the future at a potential job or in my own free time. I will be taking more COM classes that most likely will have more projects and presentations where I can use these programs effectively. The skills like how to manage my time well and organization will help with any potential career I may have in the future. I do not know of any skills that I wish I had learned but did not learn in this course. I found the adobe website and YouTube were helpful resources to use in the course because they would have addition tutorial videos available if I needed more help or wanted to learn more tools in a program. Thank you so much for following this blog throughout this semester. I had so much fun learning and creating the projects that I did, and I hope to continue to practice and strengthen my skills in Adobe programs to create more media projects.

Final Video
For this project, I decided to capture one of my sorority, Gamma Phi Beta’s philanthropy events called Moonball. I took several clips from different angles during the basketball tournament, interviewed a sorority member, and recorded a voice-over of me explaining a little bit of the event.
After getting feedback from peers and doing some self-reflection on my own work after my draft video, I had a couple of things I wanted to do in my final draft. Firstly, I wanted to change my background music to something more fitting with my draft. I will then add audio transitions to the music. I also wanted to fix my video transitions, so it is smoother and less choppy.
The first step of my editing process was to watch through all the video recordings I took and select the ones with the most interesting or active moments. I then wrote out what I wanted to say and recorded it on my smartphone. My description was not as long as my video, so I added music to play throughout the video. The music is from Mus Open called “Mangore Maxixe” by Agustin Barrios Mangore. I adjusted the music sound level so that it was louder when I wasn’t talking and quieter when I was talking. I also added transitions to the beginning and end of the video with an effect called exponential fade, so it was a smooth audio transition.
Next, I added some effects in my video transitions. I first added a title and added a fading transition called cross-dissolve to the slide. I also added an effect called dip to black to the end text that says thanks for watching to add a smooth ending. On the second to last video clip, I added the effect of zooming in as the video plays using the scale tool. I wanted to do this because you can closely see the banner that says building strong girls and the jump ball toss. The sun rays were also a nice touch so I wanted it to be emphasized. I added another transition between two clips called page peel. I also used cross dissolve, and slide for other transition so that all the clips had a transition.
The significance of the elements in my design are it clearly shows what the event is about and how many people participate in the event. It also shows the impact of our philanthropy has on the community as well as our sorority. It hopefully inspires more to participate or learn more about Girls on the Run and what impacts that has on young girls.
Overall, I think my final video shows my skills of premiere and what my sororities philanthropy is all about. I think the background music fits in well because it’s a happy upbeat tune which is what the event is about. The event is uplifting and encouraging to see that many people in our college town care about young girls in the pullman community.

My first step was to watch through all the video recordings I took and select the ones with the most interesting or active moments. I then wrote out what I wanted to say and recorded it on my smartphone. My description/narration was not the full minute, so I added music from our com 210 class tutorials called “Ascona.”
Next, I added some effects to the video and audio. I first added a title and added a fading transition called cross dissolve. I also added this in the end text that says thanks for watching to add a smooth ending. On the second to last video clip, I added the effect of zooming in as the video plays using the scale tool. I wanted to do this because you can closely see the banner that says building strong girls and the jump ball toss.
For the audio of the videos, I decided to only include the first part of someone cheering as it shows it’s starting and the excitement in the crowd. While I was doing my narration, I muted the audio of the videos because it was distracting and not relevant to the story.
The significance of the elements in my design are it clearly shows what the event is about and how many people participate in the event. Final Audio Story
For this project I decided to create an interview segment of people answering the question what Gamma Phi Beta’s philanthropy means to you. This project idea relates to my course topic because my course topic is my sorority’s philanthropy. I decided to do this because I wanted the audience to hear from other people what this philanthropy means to them and how it has impacted them. I was inspired by listening to other radio show interviewees and from this week’s readings interview examples. The significance of the elements of my design are my interview show trustworthiness because they all say similar things about how it’s impacted them in a positive way in their life.
My design process was first I recorded the answers from my peers using the voice recorder on my phone. Then I went into Audition and trimmed each of them down cutting out the beginning and end pauses and any pauses or “uh or ums” in between. I also had to adjust the sound level of some of the voices because my interviewees got quiet at some points while I was interviewing them. I then put them in a order that seemed to flow well and have a significant change of tone. Lastly, I added background music and I used the tools to have it fad in, fad out, and quiet enough so it would not overpower the interview voices. I collected the elements in my project by using music from last week’s counting tutorial and by asking three members of my sorority to answer my question. I asked our chapter president about our philanthropy because she is very involved and passionate about it. I also asked one of my good friends Delaney because she is very supportive of our philanthropy. Lastly, I interviewed my friend Dakota because she is also passionate about our philanthropy and talks about how it has impacted girl’s past and will impact their futures.
For my final, I added an introduction and conclusion to my audio story to make it easier to follow and sound better. I also did additionally edits in each of the interviews cutting out pauses or parts that weren’t as strong as the rest of their answer. I also decided not to have background music in my introduction or conclusion, so it was clear that it was important to listen to and easy to distinguish it was different than the rest of the story. Overall, I am proud of how my final audio story turned out because I put in a lot of effort and I believe it demonstrates what my sorority’s philanthropy is all about.

Overall, I feel happy about how my audio story draft turned out.

Logo Final

My logo was made for my sorority’s philanthropy, building strong girls, which is also my topic for this course. The logo is three silhouettes of girls standing in a strong, confident stance with the title that says, “We build strong girls.” When creating the girl’s silhouette, I was inspired by a statue in New York City known as the “fearless girl.” She stands before an intimidating bull but has a strong and fearless stance. I knew I wanted to have a girl standing with her hands on her hip, and that’s when I thought of this statue and what it represents. I knew I wanted to include it in my project.
My design process started with created a circle while holding down “shift”. I then added the text “we build strong girls.” Next, I found a photo of the “fearless girl” online. I used the pen tool to outline the shape of the girl. I used the shape builder tool and used vectors to make sure it could be scalable. After this, I copied this to create three girls. I adjected the shape and size of each to make them appear slightly different. I decided to create 3 girls because the number 3 is significant to Gamma Phi Beta. I also think having 3 girls gives balance to the logo look. I then added the Greek letters of Gamma Phi Beta to add detail and familiarity. Lastly, I used the gradient tool to the circle background to create a gradient look. I used pink because it is Gamma Phi Beta’s color.
After reviewing the comments my peers gave me and some self-reflection of my own work, there are a couple of different things I planned to do in my final draft. I wanted to first redo my outlines of the girls and add hair and shoes to them. I think my first draft was a good start and has a good foundation, but I can add more details to it to make it stronger.
In my final draft, first thing I did was add details to the outline of the girls. I ended having to redo the outline. I added hair and shoes the girl. I also decided to not give her a dress or skirt because it gave a more feminine look and I think she looks stronger without it. I also changed the text by using the add text on a path tool which helped make it more aligned with the circle. I also changed the background color to a lighter pink and added a black stroke so it could have a more versatile use as a logo. Overall, I am pleased with how it turned out!
